[:en]Ulcers are the result of a breach in the mucosal lining that sits on top of all of your gastrointestinal tract from your mouth – to your stomach-your small & large intestines to your rectum.
This mucosal lining is made out of a large variety of beneficial bacteria that are indigenous to not only our gut but to also every cell in our body. In essence the larger part of ‘us’ is ‘them.’
These bacteria play a ubiqitous role in our health including being the majority of our immune function.
As for our gut one of their more important roles is to act as a buffer—a wall that protects the tender tissue of our mouth- esophagus-stomach or bowel against the stomach acids we produce with every meal.
These are very harsh acids that are powerful enough to breakdown any food stuff we consume as well as—devouring any germs we may consume.
Without the mucosal lining these acids are capable of eating a hole through the GI wall. This can & will eventually occur anywhere in the GI tract that is not protected.
Ulceration and pain using Acid Reflux as an example.
If you have pain in your esophagus then you have an ulcer that is identical to one that could occur in the stomach–perhaps it could be called a Peptic Ulcer there.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome—–is an ulcer of the bowel. If it were a bigger ulcer we could name it colitis or if even bigger we could give it the moniker of crohn’s.
All of these are nothing other than an erosion of tissue somewhere along the 26 ft of GI tract. The mechanics are the same.
What do they all have in common? The digestive acid had access to the GI tissue & ate a hole through the skin-fat & muscle layers. If it goes deep enough it will hit a nerve & we will say ‘ouch.’
If it goes deeper it will hit a blood vessel & we will spring a leak & we will say-‘help.’
Ever had a canker sore—-that is all it is–an ulceration of the surface of the tongue—due to hyper-acidity of the saliva & not enough bacterial protection to buffer it.
That is all they are—-holes eaten in the tissue by your own stomach acid. Our medical friends want to work us into a frenzy with a battery of tests & then typically give us a cryptic diagnosis of having an ‘auto-immune’ disease & therefore take this drug—-forever? Yikes
Why does it have access to the surface of these tissue? Blame the drug companies who have saturated our air-food & water supplies with antibacterial chemicals.
Blame our doctors & pharmacists who do not prescribe or recommend probiotics to be taken with the antibioitcs.
Blame yourself for turning 100% of responsibility of your health over to people who pull out the prescription pad at the 1st sign of a sniffle.[:]
